News & Events
Beyond SOBACO, University research in social media and business analytics continues.
SOBACO suspended operations in June 2016 after completing its four-year charter to foster collaborative research among scholars from various disciplines across the U of M. During its run, SOBACO distributed approximately $300,000 in research grants to two dozen faculty members and graduate students. That work continues as individual researchers publish their work in leading journals.
The center also produced a variety of educational events to engage industry professionals and encourage networking between the academic and professional analytics communities. We hosted speakers from top universities including NYU Stern, MIT, and McGill University, as well as industry speakers from Facebook, Uber, Pandora, OKCupid, and others.
Since SOBACO's inception, the University has launched a Master's in Business Analytics and a Master's in Data Science. The Carlson School's curriculum has evolved to incorporate analytics in various programs at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. The College of Science and Engineering continues to build a robust research program in social computing through the Department of Computer Science.
We are grateful to all the people and organizations that joined in the conversation and the journey.
